James Joyce Ramble celebrates St. Patrick's Day Tuesday, March 2, 2004 The James Joyce Ramble and Matt Murphy’s Pub present an alternative to the typical St. Patrick’s Day of green Guinness and imposters wearing "Kiss me I’m Irish" T-shirts. (though I am sure we have all done it). Ireland has a rich literary tradition so we thought we would emphasize this fact rather than the age old notion of drinking, smoking and shagging - in no particular order. Revellers will be treated to a piece of their favorite Irish prose in front of a packed out bar on St Patrick’s day. Wether it be James Joyce, William Yeats or Paul Hewson- Bono to you and me. A sign up sheet will be available on the day and beforehand for anybody who wishes to take part. There will be suggested readings available or readers can bring along their own piece. ( No Burns or Shakespeare allowed). Each participant will be allocated a time slot and the audience will vote on the three finalists - winners will be determined by the level of cheering. So if you have a friend with a literary bent and you want to see them recite to an appreciative audience then sign them up!. All performers will be awarded with a James Joyce Ramble tee shirt! The event will take place from 10 to Midnight. This is sponsored by the most Irish running event in America, The James Joyce Ramble 10K and the Best Irish Pub in Boston (phoenix readers), Matt Murphy’s Pub, Harvard Street in Brookline. We encourage people to sign up in advance at Matt Murphy’s. The James Joyce Ramble is run on April 25 in Dedham and has a website www.ramble.org. For more information call Martin Hanley 781 329 9744. |
