World famous choral society performs at race

By Frank Walley Wednesday, March 16, 2005
The Dedham Choral will be performing for well over three thousand runners at the starting line of the James Joyce Ramble 10K on Sunday Morning, April 24 at 11:00 am on East Street at Boulevard Street.

The race organizers in keeping with the fine art theme of the race invited the Chorus last year and the runners wildly applauded before the gong was hit starting the race.

A spokesman for the group said , “The Chorus is thrilled to be associated with the James Joyce Ramble again this year. We are especially excited to perform before a unique audience in
an event that has been so supportive of the arts. We are also proud to
participate in an event that is so much a part of our Dedham community”.

The Dedham Choral Society was founded in 1955 by a group of interested
Dedham townspeople. From 1967 to 1993, under the direction of Brian Jones,
the Chorus grew from 25 to 130 members. Under the leadership of Jonathan
Barnhart since 1994, it is currently 100 singers strong, with members from
over 40 communities in greater Boston.

The Dedham Choral Society performs a wide variety of classical choral works
with professional orchestras and soloists, in original arrangements and
languages. They prepare two programs per year, performed in December and
mid-spring.

The Chorus is celebrating its 50th Anniversary Year with a special concert on May 15 at Jordan Hall, Boston. The program includes Orff’s Carmina Burana and works by Della Joio, Willsher, and Saylor. See www.dedhamchoral.org for details.
