Ramble for the Hoses / ALS fundraising

Thursday, April 23, 2009
We are still open for new runners on race day.
Post Registrations and pick ups begin at 8:30 AM Sunday from 8:30 to 10:55 AM the Endicott Estate, 656 East Street.

NOTE:  Weather forecasts are calling for sun and record-breaking temperatures.  We are responding with beefier water stations, but please run accordingly unless you train in the tropics.

On Sunday April 26, 43 Harvard Business School (HBS) students will participate in the 10km JJ Ramble charity run (
www.ramble.org).  The HBS students came together to raise funds for Prize4Life (www.prize4life.org), a nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the discovery of treatments and a cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).   ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive fatal neurodegenerative illness that attacks motor neurons, rapidly paralyzing patients while their minds typically remain unaffected. The majority of people with ALS die of respiratory failure within 3 to 5 years of noticing the symptoms. In 2004, 29-year-old HBS student Avi Kremer was diagnosed with the disease and decided to found Prize4Life with some of his classmates. “Avi has been an inspiration to the HBS community. Despite Avi’s physical deterioration and fatal diagnosis, he has provided leadership and global impact in his role as Founder and CEO of Prize4Life” said Justin Joffe, the HBS running team captain.
So far, HBS students have raised $2,000 from this event. “During this difficult economic climate, the success these students have had in raising money is nothing short of remarkable,” said James Giessler, President of Prize4Life, “Their efforts on behalf of individuals and families affected by ALS are a source of encouragement and hope for all of us working to end this horrible disease.” The students are targeting to raise $5,000 before race-day.  Donations can be made at www.prize4life.org/page/support
