The esteemed Boston Marathon isn’t the only New England competitive running event this April and this upcoming literary-minded Ramble is certainly appropriate for the end of National Poetry month.
Famous for featuring actors performing Joycean prose on the 10K course through the pretty historic roads of Dedham, this weekend’s James Joyce Ramble is also hosting a gathering of the fastest Master runners for the USATF 10K Masters Championship on Sunday, April 24.
In the second year of hosting the Championship, the iconic literary run was one of the most popular events in the Masters National series last year. New England Runner Magazine named the event the “2014 Race of the Year” among the scores of popular and more heavily corporate-supported races all over the region.. The Ramble has been a popular regional championship for the vibrant New England running community for over three decades since 1984.
Ramble organizing executive Martin Hanley is delighted that a fundamentally grass roots staged by a volunteer organization remains a destination for master runners of an elite level from all over the United States. “Our success is a testament to organic support and dedicated hard work of the organizing committee, companies such as Subaru of New England and the community”.
The Ramble has had a reputation for athletic excellence since 1984 because of its organizational acumen, community support and pretty historic course and has long enjoyed the performance of internationally acclaimed athletes with course records held by Kenyan runners Stephen Kigora, 28:45 and Martha Komu 32:54.
USA Track & Field (USATF) is the National Governing Body for track and field, long-distance running and race walking in the United States. USATF encompasses the world’s oldest organized sports, some of themost-watched events of Olympic broadcasts, the country’s #1 high school and junior high school participatory sport and more than 30 million adult runners in the United States.
The director of the New England association of USA Track & Field, Steve Vaitones, noted, ” We look forward to having this convenient opportunity available for our local athletes to go against the best age group runners in the country, particularly with more time for athletes to work the Ramble into their racing plans.”
The 33rd James Joyce Ramble 10K presented by Subaru of New England is on Sunday, April 24, 11:00 AM at the Endicott Estate.
