USA Track & Field in Indianapolis, Indiana has announced that the famous Massachusetts-based James Joyce Ramble will again host for the 3rd year the USA Masters (age 40+) 10 kilometer Road Race Championship. The decision by the National organization ensures that the iconic literary run will continue to draw the best masters distance runners from all over the country to the streets of Dedham. The Ramble has been a popular regional championship for the very active New England running community for three decades.
Ramble organizing executive Martin Hanley also announced that Subaru of New England will be the presenting sponsor for the Ramble and the company is delighted that the Ramble remains a destination for master runners of an elite level from all over the United States. “Our success is a testament to the hard work of the organizing committee, local businesses and wide community support”. Hanley observed that Dedham has just invested millions of dollars upgrading the town’s vibrant historic center and the community is most eager to showcase its significant investment come April.
The Ramble has had a reputation for athletic excellence since 1984 because of its organizational acumen, community support and pretty historic course and has long enjoyed the performance of internationally acclaimed athletes with course records held by Kenyan runners Stephen Kigora, 28:45 and Martha Komu 32:54.
USA Track & Field (USATF) is the National Governing Body for track and field, long-distance running and race walking in the United States. USATF encompasses the world’s oldest organized sports, some of the most-watched events of Olympic broadcasts, the country’s #1 high school and junior high school participatory sport and more than 30 million adult runners in the United States.
The director of the New England association of USA Track & Field, Steve Vaitones, noted, “The Ramble’s reputation as a quality local event and past New England championship led to the USA Masters Committee approving a one year agreement to host the 2013 USA masters championship after another site could not hold the event as scheduled. Despite short notice, the Ramble results had one of the largest number of championship division competitors of any USA Masters road race for the year, and the national committee was quick to recommend the Ramble for a multiple year award to host the championship. We look forward to having this convenient opportunity available for our local athletes to go against the best age group runners in the country, particularly with more time for athletes to work the Ramble into their racing plans.”
The 32nd James Joyce Ramble presented by Subaru of New England is on Sunday, April 26, 2015.
