Immediate Release:

Entries online are now being accepted for April’s James Joyce Ramble in celebration of the 39th edition of the 10K race on April 28th at the Endicott Estate.

USA Track & Field (USATF) has awarded the Ramble extension of an agreement to host the USATF Masters 10K Road Race Championship through 2019.  Multiple Championship and National age group records have been set on the loop course in the previous three years.

Managing Director of USA Track & Field – New England (USATF-NE) Steve Vaitones notes,  “With the large number of road races on the regional calendar, the Ramble provides a runner-focused event, with a unique theme in a historic and scenic setting”.

The Ramble, located in the Boston suburb of Dedham, has been featured in the pages of national and regional magazines such as Sports Illustrated, Runner’s World, and Yankee Magazine, as well as the New York Times and Boston Globe. It’s also been featured on ESPN Sports Television and National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition.”  The region’s oldest and largest endurance sports magazine, New England Runner, has recognized the event as their “Race of the Year”.

The James Joyce Ramble is the only athletic event in America that has been recognized in the United States Congressional Record for its values and its human rights initiatives established in 1984.

Among the Ramble’s attractions is the scenery and ambiance of the course, with each of the six miles named for a literary work by James Joyce.  Costumed professional actors stationed along the route interpret these works with staged readings.

According to Vaitones, “The Endicott Estate provides a pre- and post-race setting for event preparation and awards.  As one of the oldest 10K races in New England, the community supports the runners.  And since a championship is about competition, it’s nice to be affiliated with an event which records some of the fastest times run in the state each year”.  In 2015, two 10K distance National records were broken at the race.

The Ramble includes a popular children’s run and a charity walk that raises significant funds for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute’s Adams-Barr basic research fund.
