Students Raise Money for Japanese Relief

Dedham, MA (April 27, 2011)—On Sunday, May 1, 2011, students and faculty from Noble and Greenough School will join three visiting Japanese exchange students from the Hokkaido Sapporo Intercultural Technological High School, Japan, for the 28th Annual James Joyce Ramble 10K. The race will raise money for the Japanese Disaster Relief Fund–Boston. Nobles will also host a booth on the Estate grounds to raise funds for Japan. The race begins at 11 a.m. at the Endicott Estate in Dedham, Mass., and the 10K course runs a mile through the campus along the Charles River.

“We are honored that the Noble and Greenough students are using the James Joyce Ramble race as a fundraising outlet to raise money for Japan,” said Martin Hanley, Managing Director of the James Joyce Ramble. “The Ramble has always been, and will continue to be about global awareness and the opening of hearts and this program punctuates what we have tried to do since the Ramble began in 1984.”

Since the earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan, the Nobles community has participated in a variety of relief initiatives. Through t-shirt, rice sampling and bake sales, the school has raised about $1,000 for the relief fund. Students also have participated in awareness activities such as Japanese pebble painting with characters of hope, love, life and peace. A paper crane drive created 1,056 origami birds for Students Rebuild; the Bezos Family Foundation will match $2 per paper crane.

Nobles is a coeducational, nonsectarian day and five-day boarding school for students in grades seven through 12. It is located on a 187-acre campus in Dedham, Mass. For more information, visit www.nobles.edu.
