USATF American National Masters Championship

SATF Masters 10 km Championships to be hosted by the James Joyce Ramble through 2021

INDIANAPOLIS – The USATF Masters 10 km Championships will be hosted by the James Joyce Ramble in Dedham, Massachusett just outside of Boston through 2021. A new agreement extends the successful collaboration which has been in place since 2013. Increasing numbers of elite Masters runners have been attracted to the championship, culminating in a record turnout of 276 this past year over age divisions from 40-44 up to 85-89.  The course winds over rolling hills through the pleasant neighborhoods of this historic suburb of Boston, incorporated in 1636.

Despite the challenges inherent in rolling hills, several American records have been broken at the course. Carmen Ayala-Troncoso broke the Women’s 55-59 record in 2014 with a time of 39:55. In that same race, Bill Dixon established a new Men’s 65-69 record of 38:20. The following year, Christine Kennedy established a new 60-64 mark of 39:24, and Jan Holmquist lowered the 70-74 mark to 45:19. In 2017, Sabra Harvey, later to be selected the 2017 USATF Masters Athlete of the Year, broke the existing 65-69 record with a 42:06. Last year Gene Dykes bettered the American record for Men 70-74 with a 39:02.

The next installment of the championships will be on Sunday, April 28, 2019. Top Masters runners from New England turn out to defend the home course from the challenges of individual athletes and teams from across the country. Learn more about this year’s race
